Rory Watson made a try-scoring return to GHA’s ranks on Friday evening after a season’s absence. The former club captain ran in the first score of the 21-7 win against Glasgow Academicals in Glasgow Hawks’ 15-a-side tournament at Old Anniesland.

Other tries followed from Niall Cassie and Ben Wright, brother of GHA’s former scrum half, Jono. It made a scoring debut for the younger Wright. Jim Noonan kicked all three conversions.

On the downside, however, those were GHA’s only scores of the evening. The game against Accies was the Braidholm club’s third match, a play-off for fifth place after they had lost 0-7 to Ayr, the Premier One champions, and by a penalty goal to nil against GHK.

Hawks won the tournament, beating Ayr by 5-0 in the final.

GHA’s preparation for the new league season continues on Tuesday evening with a home match against Hillhead/Jordanhill. That match will kick off at 6.30.

Hi ... yeah. I'm actually older than Jono but I guess I'll take it as a compliment. Dunno lol.
