Jon Welsh, the former GHA prop, has added to his rugby CV with his selection at loose head in the Scotland A team for the match against Tonga at Netherdale, Galashiels, on Friday 20 November. Chosen in his favoured position at loose head, he is one of just two players in the starting XV who have not previously played for either the national team or Scotland A.

Jon’s previous experience in his country’s colours was as tight head in Scotland’s in the club internationals against Wales and Ireland in February 2008. He created such an impression in those matches that he earned a professional contract later that year.
Admission to the Netherdale match is free. The kick-off is at 7.30pm.

Three other former GHA players, Calum Forrester, James Eddie, and Peter Jericevich, are among the Gael Force replacements for the team’s opening match in the British and Irish Cup competition against Cornish Pirates at Camborne on Sunday.
