The final (official) outing of the season to the grounds of the former Ratho House, now Ratho Park Golf Club on the outskirts of our Capital, took place on Sunday 2nd September.
Unfortunately due to some late call-offs the field was reduced to 9, resulting in 3 three-ball outfits taking to the well manicured lawns after the traditional pre-match refreshments of bacon roll and coffee / tea.

On a clear, bright day the golf resulted in some surprises (see results!!!!) and without the usual delays of looking for multiple wayward shots, our groups returned in good time for our two-course meal and “refreshments” .

The results from the Cally Palace weekend were forgotten and turned upside down as Keith “Uncle Fester” Jones ran out winner with a highly creditable 39 stableford points followed closely by our own one-armed bandit Ian “Lefty” Robin on 37 points with the Society Secretary (and handicap convener) Alan “Tommo” Thomson taking third spot on 35 points. By all accounts it had been a close-run contest between our two high-handicappers however too many beach shots resulted in “Lefty” having to settle for second place.

At the resulting prize-giving, Society Captain Zander McIlwham presented Ken McKenzie with his trophy from the Summer outing to Muckhart Golf Club followed by the award to Keith Jones for an outstanding round of golf. In his closing remarks Zander congratulated the winners, thanked Ratho Park for their kind hospitality and use of the fine facilities and expressed a desire to see more taking part in the Society outings. He also thanked Alan for once again organising an excellent season of events and looked forward to next season.
Alan Thomson also noted that the Society has booked the weekend of 2 – 4 Aug 2019 for next year’s Cally Palace golf weekend and looked forward to another good season.
It has been proposed to look at additional informal outings during the winter but will very much be weather dependent and notification will be sent out as and when these become available.
