It’s amazing how things work themselves out. GHA have had two games postponed this season due to the weather, both against Howe of Fife and now here we are, sitting first and second in the the league with a double header against each other over the next two Saturdays and with all other sides having finished for the season.  GHA trail Howe by 7 points but with a superior points difference meaning that to win the league they must win both games and permit Howe to only achieve one more bonus point than they do so themselves. Howe on the other hand know that a win or a draw in either fixture will be enough to secure the title as will two losses with the required number of bonus points.

As the sides have not played each other this season (or before), it adds to the anticipation and has lended a cup like build up to the fixtures. Indeed, these two games will provide a good case study for what a play off might add to the league season, like has been popularised in the professional game.

One thing is for sure, both teams know their way to the try line so it could make for some entertaining rugby. From a GHA perspective, only Hooker Donald Malcolm is certain to be missing from the regular line up for both fixtures due to a knee injury, there are a couple of other question marks but it is hoped that they will pull through before the weekend.

The first game is at Duffus Park, the home of Howe of Fife in Cupar this Saturday (7th of April) at 3pm.
