For the first time in a fair number of years the senior section of the club will have significant rise in its playing number as the U18s graduate, with honours, from junior rugby. The squad came together 11 years ago and still contains 5 of its original members Gordon Adams, Daniel Clafferty, David Stoddart, Scott Mathieson & Jamie Auld along with the one of the original coaches Bob ‘Disco’ Auld.
Throughout its term this squad has had numerous successes, both district & national, including
U15 – Glasgow Cup winners,
U16 & U18 – Semi finalists Scottish Cup
U18 – Glasgow League winners
The recent awards night was hosted by Alex Millar, a long term supporter of the Junior section and recently retired Club President. In the first of the post dinner speeches the squad was formally handed on to the senior section by team manager Peter Mathieson and they were accepted by first team coach Paul Tyler who recognised their potential and benefit they will bring throughout the senior teams.
Team captain, Euan Greer, then reviewed the recent season including consoling David Stoddart who had been feeling baad recently. Chief coach Iain Biggin responded in his own inimitable manner by highlighting not only the step up required but the benefits gained from being part of the senior section.
In addition the following players were recognised
Most Improved Player: Matt Kidd (Horse)
Squad Player & “Poser” of the year award: Boris Boum (Poser)
Player’s Player: David Stoddart (Baa Baa)
Coaches Player: Gordon Adams (Birthday Boy)
Outstanding Achievement: Euan Greer (Captain Courageous)
The evening and the life of this squad was rounded off in suitable fashion with the presentation of the U18 Glasgow League Trophy to the squad by Alex Millar who also welcomed the squad to the senior section.
