GHA welcomed New Zealand flanker Jamie Pinder back to training this week. Pinder, who joined the club in 2008 and has formerly played in New Zealand’s NPC with Northland and North Harbour, has been recovering from a groin injury which has kept him out of action all season. Pinder’s return to the squad provides a welcome boost as we enter the final third of the season.
Unfortunately, GHA’s other long term casualty, former captain Niall Cassie, looks unlikely to play again this season. The hamstring injury he suffered during the opening minutes of GHA’s first game of the season looks set to keep him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.
GHA stand off Craig Sorbie, 28, has also been forced into early retirement after what seemed like an innocuous shoulder injury suffered against Whitecraigs earlier this season resulted in him requiring an operation that has necessitated and end to his playing days. This has come both as a shock and a blow to the GHA squad, Sorbie had been in imperious form before the injury occurred.
Dominic Kellock who suffered an MCL injury against Ardrossan just before Christmas is also out for the remainder of the season.
