GHA 1XV and Selkirk will once again use their annual fixture on 13 December to shine a spotlight on the vital work carried out by Scottish mental health charity Breathing Space, as the two sides compete for the Breathing Space Cup currently held by GHA.

GHA first partnered with Breathing Space in 2019, and in 2023 the two clubs came together to establish the annual cup match as a platform to promote mental health awareness and encourage open conversations within the rugby community.

This year’s fixture will take place at Braidholm, where both teams will proudly support Breathing Space’s mission to offer free, confidential support to anyone experiencing low mood, anxiety, or depression.

GHA’s commitment extends well beyond this single match. The 1XV squad wear training tops featuring the Breathing Space logo and posters throughout the club display the charity’s contact information underscoring the club’s belief in the importance of breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health.

GHA club president Gordon Adams commented

GHA is proud to stand alongside Selkirk in championing the importance of mental health via the Breathing Space Cup.

Saturday’s match shines a light on a critical topic and it’s important that everyone understands the benefits sport has on individuals but also how the rugby community can help its own.”
