Our longstanding rivalry with Cartha QP will be renewed this season following Cartha’s promotion to BT National 1. We are pleased to announce that both Club Presidents and their respective Committees have agreed to sponsor a new Cup for the overall winner of the league clashes which will add a new dynamic to what is sure to be a fiercely contested set of fixtures.
Billy Barnes was who both committees proposed to name the Cup after because of his longstanding and significant contribution to the history of both Clubs. Billy coached the then Hutchesons’ Aloysians through several league promotions in the mid 1990s – an historic side that included our current President as well as many other club legends. We are delighted that Billy graciously accepted the proposal.
The clubs have also agreed that if either club get promoted or relegated to a different league in subsequent seasons that the Billy Barnes Cup would remain as a one off game every season between the clubs in order to maintain the rivalry and to embed the status and tradition of the Cup in the Southside of Glasgow.
This season, the winner of the Billy Barnes Cup will be decided by the aggregate score over the two, home and away, league matches.
The first match of the 2017 / 2018 season is therefore also the first leg of the Billy Barnes Cup:
CARTHA QP v GHA @ Dumbreck – Sat 2nd September
Followed by the second leg:
GHA v CARTHA QP @ Braidholm – Sat 9th December
