Stirring defence earned a share of the spoils for GHA to aid their battle to evade the relegation trapdoor. Ayr had the overwhelming bulk of possession and territory at Millbrae but found themselves up against a gutsy and spirited GHA outfit, who just refused to buckle under pressure.

Against the run of play, the visitors drew first blood three minutes before the interval when James Noonan confidently banged over a penalty. Ayr continued to batter away at the line, but despite their domination they could only muster a penalty from Kenny Diffenthal. The seasiders cranked up the pace in the closing stages – but somehow the Glasgow unit managed to survive for the draw. Diffenthal edged Ayr in front – only for Noonan to square the issue two minutes from the end.
