Last night, the senior players were introduced to their new head coach for season 2011/12. Gordon MacPherson is from Otago in New Zealand and was capped for the All blacks in 1986 as a member of the fabled “Baby Blacks” who recorded a famous victory over France. More recently, Gordon was a forwards coach with the Glasgow Warriors up to 2003 and also coached Scotland A during this period.
Gordon will be asissted by Stuart Lang of Hutchesons’ Grammar School whose experience in coaching young players at Hutchie will be invaluable in helping to nurture GHA’s young squad.
GHA are also delighted to be adding 53 times capped Scotland centre Andrew Henderson to their mid-field. His centre pairing with GHA captain Niall Cassie is perhaps the most exciting the club will have fielded since former Scotland centre Alan Bulloch paired up with former Canterbury and Glasgow Warriors player Joe Naufahu during the 2004/05 season. (A comprehensive list of some of GHA’s notable former players can be viewed here)
After what has been an immensely disappointing season on the field for GHA, the club are looking to reverse their fortunes and climb back to Premier 1 at the earliest opportunity having not played in Scotland’s top division since 2007/08.
