Please see the post below from East Renfrewshire Council regarding the plans in partnership with Police Scotland for Muirend Playing Fields on Sunday 5th November surrounding the fireworks event.
As a club, the safety of all attendees is always our highest priority and we are grateful for the support of the Council and Police Scotland in this matter.
After discussions with a number of partners, including Police Scotland, over public safety, there will be no access to Muirend pavilion playing fields during GHA Rugby Club‘s fireworks display on Nov 5. Temporary fencing will be put up at the pavilion car park, which will be closed, and at the pedestrian access at Whitton Drive.
Temporary fencing will be erected from 4pm on Sunday 5 November and will be removed the following morning.
The fencing will run from the Hazelden Park boundary wall along the pavement to the pavilion car park entrance off Hazelden Gardens and continue on the other side of the car park entrance to GHA rugby’s boundary fence. The pavilion car park will be closed but the pedestrian lane from Hazelden Gardens to Braidholm Road will remain open. Vehicle access for residents will not be impacted by these restrictions.
There will also be fencing erected during the same period to restrict access to the playing fields from the lane at Whitton Drive.
These plans have been drawn up by the Council following discussions with a number of partners, including Police Scotland, over public safety. Over recent years, large crowds have gathered at Muirend playing fields, which borders the rugby club, to watch the fireworks display and significant reports of anti-social behaviour were received.
Inspector Michelle Grant, of East Renfrewshire Police, said: “We want people to enjoy events such as this safely and responsibly. This decision has been reached after discussion with East Renfrewshire Council and other partners about how to make sure this is possible. We would urge people to be aware of the closure of at Muirend playing fields and not to attend the area. We will have a presence in the area on the night to ensure the event runs safely and securely.”
Thank you.
