GHA & Glasgow Under 17 Prop Scott Gallacher has recently completed a “Player Improvement Day” at Murrayfield
As part of this Development Program selected players were involved in Strength testing and other
data collection as part of an SRU Information gathering process on players and injuries,
Scott immediately found himself “1st up” in ‘the bowels’ of Murrayfield sitting across the table from Don Gatherer, the man who recently dubbed GHA Lion, Euan Murray, as probably the strongest neck in World Rugby. Don and the SRU backroom staff put Scott through similar tests as to those ‘inflicted’ on Euan in the STV “road to the World Cup” program. It was said to young Gallacher that he had performed really well in the test – Scott and our coaches are hoping to see all the results.
Later in the day Dr Gatherer explained to all players and Coaches what they were doing as part of an SRU/S.C.O.T. exercise. He regaled all with the story that Euan was at first reticent to take part. After an aborted measurement @ 60kg, when the equipment failed, Euan declared “OK lets go” and twice measured 93kg./ 205 lbs. pressure on his neck – 3 kilograms more than the best that had been achieved by England’s Andrew Sheridan. Dr Gatherer indicated that Euan had agreed to meet him once more and Euan has set a Personal Target of being the 1st player to hit 100kg or almost 16st. on his neck – OUCH !
