At only 21, GHA stand off Andrew Goudie has been announced as captain of the 1st XV for the coming season. Andrew has been a key player for the 1st team squad for 3 seasons since leaving school and has already played 67 times for the 1st XV, scoring 253 points. He is a product of the GHA junior section and was named 1st XV 2016/17 player of the season at the recent Club Dinner & Awards night.
Andrew’s father Douglas is a former stand off for the club and his grandfather Stuart Wallace was a hugely influential figure in the development and management of the club (Clarkston) in it’s formative years, including designing the Grandstand at Braidholm.
Andrew said of the news:
“The coaching team had a chat with me and they have offered me the 1st XV captaincy for next season which I have accepted and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to captain the team. Paul Harkins will continue as Club Captain and support me in the role.”
“A big thanks to Ben Addison for leading us well last year and fully understand that due to his additional work and family commitments he won’t be able to captain us next season. The good news is that he’ll still be part of the squad and will be a big help to myself and the rest of the team.”
“Really proud moment for myself being asked to captain. The club is hugely important to me and my family. To even represent GHA has been a privilege, so to captain the first XV is a great honour and something I won’t take lightly. I’ve been lucky to play under a few good leaders at GHA so hopefully I’ll keep the trend going!”
