Jed-Forest kept up their promotion challenge with a hard-fought victory against GHA at Riverside Park on Saturday.
As was the story all over Borders on Saturday, the weather conditions were atrocious and a very strong wind and driving rain made it a game of two halves. Jed played into the wind in the first period and went in 11-0 down at the break, thanks to a try by GHA full back Gregg Taylor and Jim Noonan’s penalty and dropped goal.
An early Chris Richards penalty got the hosts on the scoreboard after the restart, but they had to wait until the hour mark for their first and only try, which was scored by Scott Laidlaw and converted by Richards.
Chris kicked another two penalties to put his side five points clear, but amazingly the referee found eight minutes extra time and GHA pushed hard. Much to the relief of the home crowd Jed held on to keep five points clear of third placed Aberdeen.
