Melrose stayed on the road to Murrayfield by outgunning GHA 33-17 and snatching revenge in the wake of the Glasgow side’s league success at the Greenyards a few weeks ago.
Centre Jon Rimmer laid the foundations with a fine opening try, with the other counters coming from hooker Wayne Mitchell and flanker Euan Thomson. Scott Ruthven was also in fine form with the boot, slotting all three conversions and four penalties. Rory Watson broke through for GHA, and was back in the spotlight when referee Ian Ramage awarded a penalty try for obstruction. Steve O’Donnell kicked the rest of their points but they never really threatened Melrose’s superiority.
