This was probably GHA’s last chance to get back into the promotion challenging group in rugby’s Scottish Hydro Electric Premiership Two, but those hopes were dashed by a clinical performance at Mayfield as Dundee HSFP ran out 33-8 winners.
The home side were 19-5 up at the break with tries from Stephen Dreyer, Aubrey Horton and Danny Levison, with Barry Jones adding a couple of conversions. GHA notched a try from Greg Taylor, but the home side looked comfortable enough going into the second half, and restricted the visitors to a Jim Noonan penalty, while Dreyer ran in his second, Jones claimed one and added both conversion.
That win takes Dundee 20 points clear of Stewarts Melville – who lie second in Premiership Two, but who went down 13-10 at home to Haddington in what is a tight race for second spot. Dundee can only throw away the title, needing as they do 18 points from six remaining matches to claim promotion and top spot.
