GHA were convincing 27-13 winners of the Southside Derby against Cartha Queens Park.

The Braidholm team started in whirlwind fashion at Dumbreck. On 20 minutes flanker Andy Rennick opened GHA’s account with a deserved score. This stung CQP into action and a slick dummy from scrum-half John McCrossan carved the way open to the GHA line. However, the away side were soon back on the offensive and another strong drive saw Rennick over for his second try.

As the interval approached Ryan Moffat seemed to have brought CQP right back into the game with a penalty but Alan Bulloch burst throught he home defence to score between the posts. Jim Noonan’s conversion made the score 17-8 in GHA’s favour at half-time.

Normal service was soon resumed after the break with the GHA pack driving over CQP’s line – Lewis Hazelton was credited with the try. Despite having a player red carded, GHA were now cruising. With five minutes to go Noonan added a penalty to seal the win. The hosts then scored a consolation try when Conor Dundon, on as a substitute, set up Alan Gibbon for a score.
