With Hawick and Hawks having booked their places in round five earlier in the weekend, at least one of rugby’s BT Cup ties played yesterday looked likely to produce an upset, and that was just what happened at Mayfield, where Dundee HSFP dumped Premiership opponents GHA out.
Despite a sprightly start by the Braidholm outfit, Dundee led 15-8 at half-time and in the end ran in six tries – from Neil Dymock, Jon Petty, Barry Jones, Dougie Gray, Calum Rankin and the last a 50 yard burst by lock Mark Jenkinson after an interception by the Ulsterman on the halfway line.
Barry Jones banged over a couple of conversions while, for a dejected GHA, tries from Andy Boag and Ross West with a Barry Edgar penalty hardly provided consolation and Dundee can now look forward to a home tie against Stirling County.
