?After the disappointment of the last 2 seasons where fixtures not completed due to various elements helped deny our Under 18s the opportunity of qualifying for the National Youth League Cup, this Saturday the squad find themselves at the cup’s Quarter Finals stage.
The squad face Melrose Wasps down at one of the rugby’s iconic grounds – The Greenyards. A hell of a challenge against an undefeated opponent.
The path to the cup has been a tough one. The team had to win their last game in the league campaign to be the top ranked West team in the conference, pipping Hamilton for that honour and the chance to enter the Cup.
The following week on 19th December found the squad at Lochinch for a game against Dalziel to qualify for the first round proper. A strong determined first half against a howling wind saw the team turn with a half time lead and then surge to a terrific 41-5 win. As with the whole season, great performances across the paddock set that win up.
The first round became a formality when opponents Orkney-Caithness had to withdraw from the competition providing the boys with a passage to this week’s challenge.
The game kick’s off at 2:00 pm at The Greenyards. Id the weather intervenes, the game will be moved to the back pitches at Murrayfield.
